How to stop "Get more storage" messages in Gmail

By the DeclutterMe team · Last checked October 31, 2026

Short answerBuilt-in setting: No

Gmail has no setting that turns off Google One storage offers. You can free up space or buy more, but neither is an off switch. A browser extension can hide the upsells while leaving your storage meter in place.

Your free Google account comes with 15 GB of storage, shared between Gmail, Drive and Photos. Gmail reminds you of that often, with “Get more storage” links and Google One offers, even when you’re nowhere near the limit.

Where the messages show up

  • Upgrade links: Google One offers inside the Gmail window.
  • Banners: storage offers above your inbox that link to Google One.

Can you turn them off in Gmail?

No. We found no setting in Gmail or in your Google Account that turns off storage offers. Google’s help pages explain how storage works and how to buy more, but not how to stop the prompts.

What you can do is manage the space itself:

  1. In Gmail, delete large emails and empty Trash and Spam.
  2. In Google Drive, open Storage in the left menu to see your largest files.
  3. Or buy more storage through Google One.

These help with space. They don’t come with a promise that the offers will stop.

Don’t ignore a real “storage full” warning

When your storage is full, Gmail can’t send or receive email, and messages sent to you bounce back to the sender. Drive stops saving files and Photos stops backing up. If you stay over your limit for two years, Google may delete content. A storage-full warning is worth acting on.

Hide the upsells, keep the warnings

DeclutterMe removes Google One storage upsells in Gmail. Your storage meter in Settings is unaffected. DeclutterMe never hides security alerts, storage-full warnings or outage notices, so you’ll still know when you actually run out of space.
